FAIRFIELD --  A new vendor has been selected to take over the congregate meal program at the area senior and community centers.

Benicia-based Innovative Health Solutions was awarded the contract, worth about $500,000, in a competitive proposal process, winning out over the previous and longtime provider, Meals on Wheels of Solano County, which holds onto the $1.5 million home delivery contract.

The Oversight Board of the Napa/Solano Area Agency on Aging made the decision on March 25. Meals on Wheels has appealed the decision. Gerald Huber, the director of the county Department of Health & Social Services, said he expected to have a determination by the end of the month.

The new contract begins on July 1.
